Mobile, No-cost Prostate Cancer Screening Program
AICF launched the Mobile, No-cost Prostate Cancer Screening Program in response to the rising incidence and mortality of prostate cancer in New York City. It is estimated that 1 in 8 men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in their lifetime - the average age of diagnosis is 67. Although we serve all medically eligible men in our program, AICF targets African American men and men of African-Caribbean descent, who face a 2.5 times higher prostate cancer mortality rate than their white counterparts. Prostate cancer disproportionately impacts low-income and uninsured patients, who often face delayed diagnosis and poorer survival outcomes. AICF addresses this critical gap by partnering with community-based organizations that serve these underserved populations.
The program is open to men ages 40–69 who have never been diagnosed with prostate cancer. At mobile screening events, participants receive free PSA testing, along with education on prostate health. Those with abnormal results are guided to appropriate diagnostic testing and treatment.
No-cost medical services are provided in partnership with Montefiore Medical Center in the Bronx and Weill Cornell Medicine across the rest of New York City.
