Name-A-Mammography-Day Campaign 

AICF_262.jpgThe American-Italian Cancer Foundation's (AICF) Mobile Mammography Program has targeted specific, economically disadvantaged and medically underserved neighborhoods in each of New York City's five boroughs.

Your support of the Name-A-Mammography-Day Campaign is particularly important at this time, since the New York State Cancer Services Program has capped its funding of breast cancer screening services for uninsured women in New York City this year, due to State budget cuts.  In recent years, the State funded mammograms and clinical breast exams for approximately 2,400 uninsured women served through AICF's Mobile Mammography Program, but they will fund only 500 in 2009-10.

AICF has pledged to continue its services for the uninsured, even though this will add approximately $200,000 to the Mobile Mammography Program's annual budget during 2009-10.  Your contribution--in any amount--will help ensure that this important service for economically disadvantaged women in medically underserved neighborhoods continues.

Donors also have the opportunity of providing full or partial support of the operation of one or more of AICF's mobile clinics and mobile unit on a specific day of the calendar year.  Donors at the $1,000 to $6,000 levels may choose the day of screening and/or name the day in honor or memory of a loved one or friend:

  • $1,000 provides partial support for one day at one community site
  • $2,000 provides full support for one day at one site
  • $4,000 provides full support for one day at two sites
  • $6,000 provides full support for one day at three sites (available in fall 2009)
Siblings may pool their contributions to name a screening day in honor of their mother on her birthday, for example, while breast cancer survivors and their families may wish to "give back" by naming a screening day in the borough of their choice.  Those who have lost a friend or loved one to breast cancer may wish to name a specific day in memory of the deceased.
